100km sponsored cycle September 1st 2013

I am cycling 100km for @TheChristie September the 1st. We all know Christies is a great charity, unfortunately these days most of us know first hand.

Thank you for all your well wishes and pennies - if you can spare anything it will be very gratefully received by Christies - we have set up a JustGiving page here.

The training is going very well and our total sponsorship is growing nicely.

100km - what were we thinking :)

Middlewich Station

Reading in today's Middlewich Guardian that the campaign for a train station in Middlewich may well have a possible future.

Here's hoping.  I think it would be fantastic news for Middlewich and make using public transport a reality, not to mention bringing people and commerce into the area.  It would certainly make a commute to Manchester possible and travel for day trips a lot easier.

Olympic torch comes to Cheshire, briefly!

Ok so it's only passing through Knutsford but I'll be there while it whizzes by :-)

"The Olympic Torch Relay arrives in Knutsford on the morning of Thursday, May 31, and, as part of the preparations, Cheshire East Council has announced a series of road closures in the town.

The council, in conjunction with the police, has taken the decision to close roads where the Olympic Flame is being carried by torchbearers.

The road closures are necessary to protect the public and to make this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity safe and enjoyable for all Cheshire East residents and participants."

Celebrating 60 years in Middlewich

I hope they'll be a great turnout in Middlewich, I love the idea of this site and celebrating locally for the Queen's Jubilee.

‘Middlewich would not be Middlewich without these hard working and talented small businesses’ says Nicola Holbrook and the 2nd of June would be a great way for everyone to get together, support one another and elevate our sense of belonging.
The venue has now been confirmed. It will be on the Tesco grounds in Middlewich, Cheshire on the 2nd of June 2012 (times TBC). U-Do are in conjunction with Tesco sponsoring the event.

Want someone else to do the ironing? Get the kids to do it!

Love this post on getting the kids to help around the home, perhaps not with the ironing but our little ones definitely love helping out with the chores.

"Now that Gary is three you should encourage him to help around the house. Young children just love to get involved with housework. It makes them feel important."

Netmums on Ironing

I think I might have been the last person on the planet to discover netmums.co.uk!

I remember reading and hearing about it in the press and finally got around to having a look for some inspiration for activities for the kids for the weekend.

The main thing for me is that it is locally biased, you can search for your specific area (in my case East Cheshire).  Whether it be a day out, advice, help and advice and services - all in your area.

Apart from the huge collection of information on there, it has local events in your area.  It also has a local directory so I added my services to it.

What do you get if you cross a plastic bag with an iron?

Any guesses?

I am not sure this what the humble iron was intended for, very strange, of all the things you'd think you could do with a few plastic bags and an iron -- it wouldn't be a bookmark!

I would be interested to know if anyone has tried this! Amazed too :)

I won't be using any of our irons for this :-)

Man-dash day!

Another phrase coined 'Man-dash' day.  That's today, the day that all men rush out to buy those last minute presents :)  I couldn't leave it that late, but I have to admit there's some logic in getting it all done in one day.

I hope you manage to get out to your local town, Middlewich has some real surprises in the shape of interesting shops and you will always find friendly service from people wanting to help you think of ideas.

MERRY CHRISTMAS from Middlewich Ironing

I am 'The Iron(ing) Lady!'

I've not seen the Thatcher movie yet but I am a fan of Meryl Streep, in this article of an interview she jokes:

So in what areas of her life can she be an Iron Lady, we asked. “Can I be an iron lady? I am an ironing lady. That is what I do. I do this,” she wittily replied and then started pretending to iron.

Ironing Wiki

I shouldn't be surprised to find that Wikipedia has detailed articles on ironing, even so I was a little amazed :-)

They actually make a good read, the two Wiki articles I found were Ironing and Washing Symbols.  The Ironing article actually gives you the temperatures for different materials which is quite useful.

I did wonder about helping maintain the pages or perhaps creating a Middlewich Ironing Wiki page but somehow didn't imagine anyone would read them, and if I really had time :-)

Enjoy anyway...

1790 hours ironing!

Scary news from the Daily Mail, according to their article the average women spends 1790 hours in their life time ironing :-)

I won't tell you how many hours I spend a week running an ironing service but I could quickly reach 1790 each year I am sure :-)

Ironing tips

There are some real nuggets in this article.

Not ironing in circles and not using distilled water are probably the best two tips I would go with from this list.

Of course I get many people saying not doing at all and have us do their ironing is the better tip :-)

Ironing to test the best!

Apparently Sandhurst use Ironing to test their new recruits!

I wonder if I could offer my ironing service to the new recruits? It would show initiative if nothing else :-)
